Ledger the cat relaxes. |
The cat was surrendered to HART because his owner was moving.
The rescue discovered that Ledger is FIV+. Cats who are FIV+ can live long, happy lives. Franny Syufy who writes the About.com Cat's guide reports that FIV cats "can lead a reasonably normal life span."
HART of Maine recommends for FIV+ cats:
- sound diet
- routine veterinary exams protection against secondary infection (i.e., vaccinate against other viral diseases, control parasites - fleas/worms/mites, keep indoors and away from other cats)
To learn more about FIV check out the facts at the Best Friends Animal Society.
