Charlie, looking handsome at 29, with his owner. |
Is it their diet? Their lifestyle? Lucy, a grey tabby may be 39 years old. Charlie, a ginger kitty is 29. Most cats live an average of 12-15 years. These two senior cats must be doing something right. They certainly don't show their age.
Lucy as she appeared in a local paper. Is she really 39? |
In the Daily Mail Reporter it was reported that Lucy is deaf but "that she is in good shape." When Lucy's owner Bill Thomas took her to the vet, the vet said, "she was very old but it was not possible to give her exact age."
Charlie is a Well-Traveled Cat
He is owned by Sina Graham a former BBC correspondent. He's quite the traveler. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Charlie was on Air Force One during Clinton's presidency and at Nelson Mandela's release.
Charlie has a taste for tea.
Did Cream Puff's and Granpa's Diet Help?
Before Lucy and Charlie, there was Cream Puff. She was the oldest cat at 38 years and 3 days as listed by the Guinness Book of World Records 2010. She lived from August 3, 1967 to August 6, 2005.Cream Puff was owned by Jake Perry and lived in Austin, Texas. Jake Perry was featured in "South Paws," a short documentary about his beloved cats. (See below) Perry also owned a sphynx, named Granpa who lived 34 years and 2 months.
What accounts for the longevity of Perry's cats? Maybe it was their unique diet. Every morning he fed them bacon, eggs, broccoli and coffee.
Maybe I'll change my breakfast plans.

Well, my oldest is Ginny, a Berman/Siamese mix and she is 24 this year. She is not in good health as far as the vet says but she just finished dinner, water, used her box and she's sitting with me as I post this. She's a trooper. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5
ReplyDeleteOh my Cats! I hope all of mine live that long. They sure are ornery enough to, heh heh.
ReplyDeleteBacon? Ohhhhh, we LOVE bacon! Now maybe this will be the incentive Mom needs to drop a strip our way. Yum! We've never tried to drink her coffee though. Mom says we're wound up enough.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great excuse for bacon and eggs in the morning! I think I might conveniently forget about the broccoli though! I won't mention to Austin that he might outlive me, it could give him ideas!!
